I’ll introduce a model course for a day trip from Tokyo to the Boso Peninsula area of Chiba Prefecture.

Based on my own actual day trip experience,
this should be a realistic and practical model course.

This model course is primarily intended for those living in Tokyo near the Kanagawa Prefecture border.

Introduction to the Destinations and Time Schedule Model Course

A Plan to Enjoy the Food and Nature of the Boso Peninsula

8:00 Rent a car in Tokyo
9:00 Pass through the Aqua-Line and enjoy a quick visit to Umihotaru
11:00 Eat soba for lunch (this also serves as breakfast)
12:30 Enjoy parfait for dessert after lunch
13:30 Admire the spectacular view from Kujukutani Observation Park
14:00 Interact with animals at Mother Farm
17:00 Return via Aqua-Line
20:00 Return the rental car in Tokyo

This is an ambitious plan that allows you to enjoy
the sea, nature, animals, meals, and sweets.

Although you’ll need some energy since you’ll be moving around all day,
you’ll definitely feel refreshed by experiencing the openness
that you don’t normally get in Tokyo with its high-rise buildings and crowds!

Renting a Car in Tokyo

First, let’s rent a car.

I recommend renting from car rental shops around Kamata Station or Kawasaki Station,
as this will make your subsequent travel easier.

Since you’ll be driving on highways and mountain roads,
I recommend renting a car with a bit more engine power.

I rented a Honda Fit, but
I often felt it lacked power on uphill slopes.

Passing Through the Aqua-Line and Enjoying a Quick Visit to Umihotaru

When heading to the Boso Peninsula,
visiting Umihotaru via the Aqua-Line is an absolute classic.

The view of the sea from Umihotaru is spectacular.

If you follow this model course and go early in the morning,
the road to Umihotaru won’t be too crowded, making for a comfortable journey.

In addition to tourist shops, Umihotaru also houses convenience stores and Starbucks.
You can use these to gather supplies needed for your mini-trip
or to satisfy small hunger pangs.

Eating Soba for Lunch

We’ll eat soba at Teuchi Soba ABIRU near the mountains in Kimitsu City.

There was a wait of about 5 groups during lunchtime, which suggests that this is a popular soba restaurant.

The cottage-like exterior of the restaurant in the midst of nature is very charming.

The interior also has a wooden design, creating a relaxing atmosphere.

I ordered zaru soba (cold soba noodles), perfect for the hot summer season.
The noodles had a nice firmness and were very delicious.

Enjoying Parfait for Dessert After Lunch

After eating, it’s time for dessert.

We’ll have parfait at a stylish sweets shop called Rioan located in the midst of nature.

The cookie designs are adorable.
The one on the left is mango, and the one on the right is blueberry.
Made with seasonal fruits, they were incredibly delicious.

You can also order parfaits to go.
Given the COVID situation, eating your parfait in the car is also a good option.

Admiring the Spectacular View from Kujukutani Observation Park

Now that we’ve satisfied our stomachs with both a meal and dessert, we head to Mother Farm.

On the way to Mother Farm, there’s a scenic spot called Kujukutani Observation Park.

Let’s enjoy the magnificent nature that you can’t see in Tokyo.

Looking down from the observation park,
we could see hawks flying several times.

I was thinking that the stars must be beautiful at night…
Next time, I want to come at night to stargaze.

Interacting with Animals at Mother Farm

Finally, we arrive at Mother Farm.

Mother Farm is very spacious, with many enjoyable spots.

Since we have about 3 hours to spend at Mother Farm, we’ll focus on selected attractions.

Here are the main activities I enjoyed:

Mother Farm Tour DX

You ride in a trolley-like vehicle pulled by a tractor, touring various parts of the farm.

It’s heartwarming to see the free-roaming animals
in the open farm environment.

Along the way, there are opportunities to get off and directly interact with alpacas, goats, sheep, and more.

You can also feed the sheep directly.
They are fluffy and very cute.

You can watch the shepherd staff and their sheepdogs guiding the sheep.

Cow Milking Experience

You can milk a cow to get fresh milk.

Since this was my first experience,
I was surprised by how warm the cow’s milk felt.

You can milk the cow multiple times during the event period.

Exploring Other Animals on the Farm

There are many other animals on the farm.

I recommend spending your remaining time exploring various animals.

Seeing a large turtle up close was more impressive than I expected.

Watching rabbits hopping around is something I could do all day.

In addition to the above, there are many other events such as:

  • Horseback riding experience
  • Rabbit and guinea pig touch experience
  • Piglet races
  • Duck parade, etc.

There are many events being held.

To be honest, 3 hours is not enough time.

To fully explore Mother Farm, you need a full day or at least half a day.
※ However, staying at the farm all day under the blazing sun might be a bit harsh… lol

Returning via Aqua-Line

By the time you finish touring Mother Farm, you’ll likely be exhausted.

Allow ample time and return at a leisurely pace.

The Aqua-Line from the Boso Peninsula back to Tokyo gets very congested.
It’s wise to estimate that it will take twice as long as the outbound journey.

If you plan to return the rental car near Kamata by 20:00,
leaving Mother Farm 3 hours earlier will allow you to return comfortably.

The Good Points of This Model Course

That concludes the introduction of the model course.

The good point is that you can enjoy food, dessert, nature, and animals all at once.

Also, you can enjoy a leisurely drive through the mountains in a rental car,
making it especially recommended for couples who want to enjoy a private space together.

Reflections on This Model Course

If I were to identify a point for reflection in this model course,
it would be that there’s definitely not enough time for touring Mother Farm.

I also wanted to enjoy the rabbit and guinea pig touch experience and horseback riding,
but they were ending just as I arrived, so I couldn’t participate.

If you’re visiting Mother Farm using this model course,
you’ll need to select and enjoy just two or three events.

If you want to fully enjoy Mother Farm from start to finish,
you should either make it more than a day trip with an overnight stay,
or reduce the time spent on meals and desserts, etc.,
intentionally increasing your time at Mother Farm to more than 3 hours.

On this point, I think it’s good for readers planning a trip to
flexibly customize the model course according to their own values.

Summary

In this article, I’ve introduced a day trip model course
from Tokyo to the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture.

The Boso Peninsula is packed with attractive elements such as food, desserts, nature, and animals.

Although I couldn’t introduce it in this article,
touring the seas and beaches of the Boso Peninsula is also recommended,
as you can experience scenery and atmospheres completely different from daily life in Tokyo.

Why not consider the Boso Peninsula in Chiba Prefecture as a destination for your day trip?
